Where can I sign the petition?

Why is this important?

The small mammal fauna of Australia is being eaten by feral cats and foxes. More than 20 marsupial species face extinction. The devil was found on the mainland until 600 years ago and Australia’s top ecologists believe its return could help protect our native animals. They have called for an experimental re-introduction of zoo-bred, disease-free devils onto the mainland. Meanwhile, the devil is faced with extinction in Tasmania by Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD) – something we don’t have on the mainland. We have lost over 80% of wild Tasmanian devils due to this disease in the last 10 years.

To lose the devil and other native species on the mainland would be morally wrong and a profound loss to all Australians. With one action, we can help secure a disease-free future for the devil and restore ecological balance on the mainland. Tasmanian Environment Minister Groom does not want the mainland trial to even be discussed. We believe, however, that we have a moral obligation to not allow local politics to get in the way of saving this species from extinction.

We must act NOW before it’s too late!

How will it be delivered?

We will deliver this petition to Tasmania’s Minister for Environment, Matthew Groom, and the Federal Minister for Environment, Hon. Greg Hunt, expecting support for a facilitated workshop on a trial release.
