Volunteers
You are about to apply to become a member of the Reptile Park team!
Our volunteer program is exclusively open to TAFE & university students who are currently studying or have recently completed studies in an animal-related course, who aspire to build careers in the zoological industry. The program will integrate students’ theoretical learning with hands-on experience in the Australian Reptile Park’s world-class facility.
Mission Statement: The volunteer program’s mission is to provide a platform for dedicated individuals to pursue careers in the zoological industry through comprehensive training and mentorship, aligning with ARP’s mission to share wildlife with the world.
Vision Statement: To be the premiere stepping stone for aspiring zoological professionals, offering the highest standard of training in welfare, customer service, and career development within the industry, while being on every family’s bucket list.
The program will assign ONE volunteer per day to each of the following three sections:
- Spiders
- Reptiles
- Mammals & Birds
This focused approach to one section per volunteer will facilitate in-depth training and mentorship. Volunteers will engage in a variety of tasks including animal enrichment, habitat maintenance, public engagement, and welfare assessment. Each volunteer will have a crucial role in contributing to the well-being and educational experience of our visitors.
All volunteers undergo a 4-week trial period during which completion of the Occupational, Health, and Safety Manual is mandatory.
Volunteers receive a discount on certain purchases at our Kiosk.
Applications are now OPEN for 2024.
Only short-listed applicants will be contacted.
Participating in the Volunteer Program does not guarantee employment at the Australian Reptile Park or within the zookeeping industry. Once accepted into the program, volunteers are required to pay a deposit of $70.00 to receive an Australian Reptile Park work shirt, name badge and covers the cost of both a Police and Working with children check. This money is held until the volunteer leaves the program and the shirt and badge is returned. Please ensure you attach a passport photo to your application, along with a medical certificate from your local GP stating that you’re fit for work.
