Kangaroo Joey Takes Adorable First Hops

Date Published: September 22, 2021

The Australian Reptile Park has had a bumper year with new arrivals with Jumping Jack the Eastern grey kangaroo joey being the latest bouncing bundle of joy showing off at the Central Coast wildlife sanctuary. The adorable first hops were caught on camera and after the video was posted on social media Monday night, Jumping Jack has already stolen the hearts of hundreds of thousands of Australians. The video has already gained over 250,000 views in just two days!

Although small, the joey is already gaining confidence, seemingly wobbly on his tiny little feet and learning to explore the Australian Reptile Park. For now, the joey still sticks closely by Mum “Joy” side but will presumably begin to adventure further away as he gets older.

Australian Reptile Park Director Tim Faulkner says “I love when we see Kangaroo joeys begin to pop their heads out of the pouch, and we’ve seen a few after the past few weeks! It’s always so exciting when they take the great big leap from Mum's pouch, is there anything cuter than the first wobbly hops of roo joey?! And Jumping Jack is certainly living up to that!”

Jumping Jack is a part of the Australian Reptile Park’s Eastern grey kangaroo family which visitors to the Park are able to interact with and hand-feed them when the Park is open. This hands-on experience with an Aussie icon is often a highlight to the guests at the Park. The joey will be venturing out and about more and more and when visitors are able to return after the current New South Wales lockdown, visitors will be able to meet, feed or even take a selfie with little Jumping Jack!
